“This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before.” (Leonard Bernstein)
The Tale of Esther is part of the project “Compassion Above All”. It is a music retelling of one of the most sacred stories in Jewish history: the story of Queen Esther in the composition Shahin-nameh, by Iranian-Canadian composer Iman Habibi. This work for large orchestra and a soloist won the Azrieli Foundation prize for the best work on Jewish theme. It was also nominated for Juno award. This music appeals to our common humanity, our struggle for light and beauty for every human being.
Also on the program - a tribute to Arvo Pärt for his 90th birthday with the work Tabula Rasa, and a Canadian premier of “The Message “ by Latvian composer Peteris Vasks.
Conductor - Leslie Dala; Soloist - Sepideh Raissadat.
