Join Rabbi Hannah and guest, her rabbinic mentor Rabbi Neil Blumofe, for Or Shalom's first ever Jazz Selichot on Saturday, September 24th at 7:30 p.m. Together they will meld chasidic music with jazz, opening the niggun to improvisation, They will dip in with chasidic melodies of cleaving as we reluctantly say goodbye to Shabbat, move through Havdalah and then into Selichot, a communal opportunity to acknowledge that it is time to return to our authentic selves, in advance of standing before our Creator on the Birthday of the World and the Birthday of Humankind.
Rabbi Blumofe was trained as a jazz singer and saxophonist in New Orleans and also holds a cantorial degree from the Jewish Theological Seminary. He is the spiritual leader of Congregation Agudas Achim in Austin, Texas.
