January 27 is designated by the United Nations General Assembly as International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD). Since 2005, the UN and its member states have held commemoration ceremonies on this day to mark the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and to honor the victims and the survivors of the Holocaust. The day is also spent promoting Holocaust education throughout the world.

The Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre, along with multiple partners, has been hosting events for IHRD for years. For this year, the details will be announced soon, including the timing.
